Our methodology

Our methodology helps our clients understand the relationships between Information, Technology and Governance within strategic and operational requirements. Although the problems that organisations face in developing an effective intranet are now well known the solutions are always specific to the organisation. The methodology was devised jointly by Intranet Focus Ltd and McQueen Consulting http://www.mcq.com in 2001. It has been used successfully in a wide range of corporate and public sector projects in the USA and in Europe.

Information typically includes content strategy, information architecture, metadata, external content integration, the support of collaborative working, document and records management and the identification of user requirements through persona development and usability testing.

Technology covers content management, search, and taxonomy and classification software specification and selection, application integration, the implementation of portal technologies and collaboration and remote working applications.

Governance issues include objectives and ownership, legal and regulatory issues, standards and good practice, skills and training, cultural and organisational change, and the management of the implementation of CMS and other applications.

Changes in one element, such as the need to devolve content contribution (Information), will require an evaluation of content management software products (Technology) and the development of appropriate standards and good practice recommendations for content authors (Governance).

The overall aim is to balance the requirements of users with the work involved in authoring content and adding metadata.
