Intranet and enterprise search events 2009 - April update

This is an updated version of the list published on 22 January 2009 with some additional details added. Please let me know if there are any errors or omissions. In addition J.Boye are running a number of events for members of its Communities of Practice.

April 16-17 Intranet Insider World Tour, New York

An innovative approach to presenting case studies of intranets from Communitelligence, as well as presentations on intranet topics and some round tables. Unravelling the details of the event from a rather jumbled web site is a challenge!

May 5 - 7 J. Boye Conferences Philadelphia 2009

After the very considerable success of the Aarhus conferences over the last three years J.Boye is launching its first USA event at the Down Town Club in central Philadelphia. There are quite a number of intranet workshops and intranet case studies, along with presentations on web management and SharePoint implementation. Jed Cawthorne (Prescient Digital Media) and I are running a workshop on intranet best practice on the morning of 5 May and then I go on to give a workshop on using SharePoint for intranets in the afternoon. The SharePoint workshop is based around the research I have been undertaking for the last few months in writing a report on the subject for the Intranet Benchmark Forum. If the Aarhus conferences are anything to go by this will be a very well organised event with excellent speakers.

May 11-13  Enterprise Search Summit, New York

The Summit starts with workshops on Monday 11th. One of these is a one-day enterprise search workshop that is being co-presented by me and Valentin Richter of Raytion, a search integration company based in Dusseldorf. This year there are quite a substantial number of speakers who are new to ESS, and I would highlight opening keynote speaker Ramesh Harji, Head of Information Exploitation at Capgemini in London, who with his colleagues has developed some very innovative approaches to getting the best return from information and knowledge assets. There is always a good exhibition at this Summit.

May 20 Scientific Text and Data Mining, London

This looks to be a very well devised one-day conference on text and data mining, with  speakers from Cambridge (Unilever Centre for Molecular Informatics), NaCTeM (National Centre for Text Mining), GSK, AstraZeneca, Accelrys and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

May 21 Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for Intranets and Projects, London

I am giving a one-day workshop on the use of SharePoint for intranets and projects under the auspices of UKeiG. No technical knowledge required - the focus of the event is on governance-related issues and helping intranet managers understand what the benefits and issues would be of using MOSS07 to replace current CMS, collaboration and search applications.

May 28-29 Fourth Intranet and Portals Forum, Amsterdam

A feature of this event is that the speakers come from a range of EU Member States. I've never been to this event in the past because as a consultant I would be charged a fee to present.

June 16-17 Innovation in e-information - The UKeiG Annual Conference, Manchester

This is pushing the envelope a little in that the only direct reference to intranets at the conference is a paper that I am giving, but as I am Chairman of UKeiG I'd like to suggest that if you are an intranet manager then there will be a number of papers that would be of interest.

June 24-25 Intranet Summit 2009, Frankfurt

This is a very good (based on my participation last year) intranet conference with good case studies, but note that the conference language is German.

July 1-3 Swiss Intranet Summit 2009, Zurich

The Swiss edition of the Frankfurt conference

15-16 September Successful Enterprise Search Management, London

This two-day workshop is being given by Stephen Arnold and me, and is based on the report we published earlier this year. The scope of the workshop will be similar to that of the report, but will be adapted by us to meet the needs of delegates. As well as the main sessions there will be break-outs on specific topics, extended Q&A sessions and case studies. The course will be largely non-technical and will focus mainly on the business and management issues that have such an impact on the outcome of the implementation process.
